Tonight I planted five seeds each in separate clay pots:
Lavandula officinalis aka English Lavender
Thunbergia alata aka Black-Eyed Susan vine
Cynoglossum amabile aka Chinese Forget-Me-Not
I keep them in my room because it's the warmest in the house and gets the most sunlight. The pots sit on my windowsill to take advantage of the sunlight during the day, and at night they get moved to the other side of the room so the cold draft from the windows doesn't kill off the seedlings before they even take root.
I'm going to have to buy bigger pots for them before they send up shoots. I think that'll be hard to do unless I find something at the Lowe's.
Meanwhile my basil's doing well, but I'm not sure if it's ever going to flower so I can collect seeds.
Second meanwhile: It's so hard to find local plant nurseries. Even when I put in "plant nurseries in _my town_, PA", half of the results come back for daycare human child nurseries. Of the remaining half that are actually plant nurseries, a quarter are landscaping/tree-cutting services. All I want is to find places where I can find categorized packets of identifiable seed packets.
Not what they sell in any retail store, "Mixed seeds! Push into soil, add water and watch them grow!"
I want herb seeds which are correctly identified as the specific plants I want.
I want rooted cuttings which are correctly identified as the plants I want.
There is the local Burpee's, but Mom says they're not open til March.
Lowe's, Home Depot, Walmart: the gardening centers are practically bare to the bones, when all I want is a few damn pots and maybe some starter soil, not a bag big enough to cover my entire yard. No, shopping season for gardeners in this area won't start until around mid-March to April, for early birds eager to get a head start on summer blooms.
Oi.
